We are an experienced and dedicated faculty, with a great depth of knowledge, committed to provide all students with a quality education in this important subject area. With a focus on developing the skills and confidence to work accurately on everyday numeracy and mathematical problems. Promoting a deeper understanding of the importance of mathematics in our society for students and develop their mathematical thinking, understanding and confidence.

Teaching programs are used to help develop the knowledge and skills appropriate to each student's level of ability. Students are encouraged to take personal responsibilities for their learning. They are offered ongoing feedback, encouragement and challenge from their teachers, and are expected to strive to achieve to the best of their ability.

Homework

Given regularly for the purpose of consolidating the work from each lesson, while regular revision in class is used to help achieve a consistent level of success in assessment tasks.

Mathletics and MathsOnline                                                                        

Mathletics and MathsOnline is an online interactive program which helps to switch students onto Mathematics. It is engaging, supportive and targeted to the Australian mathematics curriculum. In 2022, all students in Years 7 and 8 will have access to Mathletics, while students in Years 9 & 10 will have access to MathsOnline. Students are recognised throughout the year as they achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates.

The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10. 

By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.

The syllabus consists of the following strands:

  • number and algebra
  • measurement and geometry
  • statistics and probability.

In Year 11 and 12, the study of mathematics is optional. Courses offered include:

  • Mathematics Extension 2 (Year 12 only)
  • Mathematics Extension 1
  • Mathematics Advanced
  • Mathematics Standard 2
  • Mathematics Standard 1 (Optional HSC examination)
  • Mathematics Life Skills.
