Science is mandatory for all students from Year 7 to Year 10.
At OPHS our stage 4 and 5 Science course places an emphasis on applying knowledge and understanding content to real world applications and problems. To achieve this, we have structured our programs so students can collect evidence, discover, develop and produce possible solutions to solve issues presented.
An integral part in developing a students’ ability to independently answer questions, investigate issues and draw conclusions are the Working scientifically skills. They are fostered in our programs using hands-on practical investigations, demonstrations, collaborative activities, research and critical and creative thinking skill development tasks.
Our goal is to instil a genuine curiosity about the world and develop the skills necessary for our students to investigate new ideas, analyse information and draw balanced conclusions from data presented to them as they move through an ever increasing complex world of the 21st century.
Science is mandatory for all students from Year 7 to Year 10.
Science 7-10 provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real-world problems. Science emphasises the skills for working scientifically, as well as critical and creative thinking to address scientific issues.
In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:
In Year 12, students who are studying at least one other science subject may also choose to study Science Extension.
